superspacecat In 1996 I was awarded a trophy by the Smugglers for shaking my ass the best at their show. It is still among my most prized possessions. Favorite track: Bishy-Bishy!.

about

from the desk of Grant Lawrence:

"Selling the Sizzle" is generally considered our most popular album, and I guess that's for good reason. It was our first that came out on both Mint Records and Lookout Records in early 1996, and it by far sold the highest of any record in our career. You could say it was all timing. The pop-punk scene was really heating up in California, and anything that had the Lookout logo on it in the mid-90s pretty much instantly sold in the tens of thousands if not much higher. In that regard, we were so lucky. We recorded the album with Mass Giorgini at his Sonic Iguana Studio in Lafayette, Indiana. We toured out there playing shows to sharpen the songs, and toured out to San Francisco after the recording to hand-deliver the record to Lookout. Mass had become the defacto in-house Lookout producer for bands like the Queers and Screeching Weasel, and he had done some work with Green Day. It was the longest we had ever spent in a studio (about a week), and the hardest work, too. Mass did things like tune our drums, fix the intonation on our guitars, and made me sing my vocal takes over and over and over again to the point of pure frustration, but the proof is in the poutine. Whenever we play live, it's these songs that always get the biggest reaction. Hope you enjoy.
